Being Active
This lesson is designed to engage 9-10-year-olds in physical activity through game-based learning and active learning strategies. It encourages students to be active, understand the importance of physical fitness, and develop teamwork and coordination skills while having fun. This is important as it helps students build healthy habits and improve their physical and mental well-being.

Step 1
Icebreaker
5 mins
Start with a fun icebreaker game, such as 'Simon Says' or 'Duck, Duck, Goose,' to get the students moving and energized.
Simon Says: The teacher gives commands starting with "Simon says" (e.g., "Simon says touch your toes"). Students must follow these commands only if they start with "Simon says." If the command doesn't start with "Simon says," students should not follow it. If they do, they're out for that round.
Duck, Duck, Goose: Students sit in a circle while one student walks around the circle tapping others on the head, saying "duck." When they say "goose," the tapped student gets up and chases the tapper around the circle. The goal is to tag the tapper before they can sit in the empty spot.
Step 2
Introduction
10 mins
Introduce the objective of the lesson: being active and understanding the benefits of physical fitness. Explain the activities planned for the day and how they will help achieve this objective.
Step 3
Discussion
10 mins
Conduct a guided discussion using the provided discussion questions on the benefits of being active and how it can be fun. Encourage students to share their own experiences with physical activities they enjoy.
Step 4
Ball Toss Game
25 mins
Organize a ball toss game. Divide students into small groups and instruct them to toss the ball to each other without dropping it. Incorporate variations such as adding more balls or forming a circle and calling names before tossing. Ensure all students participate and stay active.
Step 5
Closure
10 mins
Gather the students and reflect on the activities. Discuss what they enjoyed the most and the benefits they felt from being active. Reinforce the importance of incorporating physical activity into their daily routine.
