Empathy in Action Lesson Plan

Students will identify and express emotions while learning strategies to show empathy and include peers, addressing feelings related to a recent bullying incident.

This lesson fosters a supportive and inclusive environment by guiding students to understand others’ feelings and create a more empathetic community.

Empathy in Action

Welcome the students and introduce the session with a simple greeting. Explain that we will explore how people feel and how we can help one another feel included using pictures and stories.

Recognizing Emotions

Explain the concept of emotions. Ask students to think of times they felt happy, sad, or left out. Engage them with simple questions to help connect with the images.

Understanding Exclusion

Introduce the bullying incident in sensitive terms. Share a simple story that parallels the real incident in the classroom (keeping details generic) and ask students how the left-out person might have felt.

How Can We Help?

Guide students on strategies for showing empathy. Encourage them to share ideas in pairs or as a group on how to include someone who feels lonely or left out.

Reflection & Cool Down

Wrap up the session with a summary and reflection. Reinforce the key ideas and invite students to share one thing they learned about empathy. Remind them about translation support available.
